As human we are all capable of nurturing an attitude of gratitude, however, most times we need a gentle reminder or a little convincing to practice it. There are many reasons to practice gratitude but we are only recently discovering one of the big ones “it’s capacity to change and strengthen the brain in remarkably positive way Karen-Hey Sigmund.

Regularly expressing gratitude is amazingly good for us – and by extension at our busy places, homes Neighbourhood in more ways than we might realize. Gratitude comes in many ways and forms and it is so powerful, research has shown that gratitude can improve general well-being, increase resilience, strengthen social relationships and reduce stress and depression.

Gratitude is a positive feeling which yields long-lasting emotional and physical satisfaction as well as our general well-being,  gratitude improves our immune system, stabilize our blood pressure, improves our sleep habits and a better waking.
Grateful people more alert, generous, happy happier and also have a greater capacity to elicit joy and positive aura around them, the importance of gratitude can be summed up by the phrase “Don’t Worry, Be Happy“.
The positive relationship between gratitude and life satisfaction/happiness remains significant.
Gratitude effectively increases happiness, improves psychological health, reduces toxic emotions and helps you have a positive disposition all day with everyone you come in contact with said Robert A. Emmons Ph.D. leading gratitude researcher.
You can’t feel grateful and negative at the same time as the more space gratitude is allowed in your heart the further it will expand and multiply itself to bring about other positive vibes, emotions, connection, appreciation, and joy.
Gratitude has the capacity to increase important neurochemicals, furthermore, feelings of gratitude directly activate brain regions associated with the neurotransmitter Dopamine, as it is considered the ‘reward’ associated with the feeling of closeness, connection, and happiness that comes with gratitude.
Practice Gratitude as a daily default feeling, if it doesn’t come to you naturally then spend more time paying attention to life’s positives this can help train you to see more and more of them which will help you learn to be more grateful.

Steps to Practicing gratitude

  • Note one or more things you are grateful for on a daily basis
  • Take a mental note of your day-to-day world from a point of gratitude and you will be amazed at all the goodness you take for granted.
  • Deep down within decide not to complain, criticize nor gossip for a week, if you slip to get back on and keep going, you will notice how much energy is dissipated on negative thoughts.
  • Say a word to compliment daily directly or otherwise at home, work, park neighborhood and also share your appreciation of people and things, for instance,  I love how nice the weather is today,  don’t you?
  • Sound genuinely happy to hear from people who call you on the phone they will feel valued.
When you realize there is nothing lacking the whole world belongs to you ‘Lao Tzu’. Explore a positive experience, for instance, you receive a text message or you are hanging out with someone you like find a positive experience and spend few minutes writing down every detail about it in a list form for about 21 days. Focus your attention on the details while you are putting pen to paper, it will consciously guide you into the beauty of gratitude.
